Reference Photos for a Custom Knife Enquiry

Start with one clear design direction

A reference photograph is most useful when it explains a particular part of your idea. You might like the outline of one blade, the colour of another handle or the way a sheath is arranged. Before sending several pictures, choose your main reference and explain what you want to carry forward. This gives the conversation a clear starting point without treating every photographed detail as a confirmed specification.

Include a complete view and useful details

Begin with a photograph that shows the complete item, including its tip and handle. Add a second view of the opposite side when available. Close-ups are helpful for details such as handle shape, fittings or a sheath closure, but they do not replace an overall view. Our product photo comparison guide explains how to read these different views together.

Label each reference

A short note beside each image is easier to follow than an unexplained folder of pictures. For example, label one image “preferred handle colour” and another “preferred overall shape.” If a feature is optional, say so. Use photographs that you own or are permitted to share, and describe the features you like rather than asking for another maker’s logo or branding to be copied.

Separate appearance from measurements

A photograph does not confirm scale, weight or material grade. Write your preferred measurements separately and state the units you are using. If you do not have an exact size in mind, ask the team which dimensions should be confirmed before a quote. Read our knife dimensions guide to organise these questions. Keep estimated measurements clearly marked as estimates.

Describe the sheath and the whole order

If you want a sheath or carry case, include a reference for it and explain which item it needs to fit. A similar-looking cover may not suit a different blade or guard. Our sheath fit checklist helps you prepare that part of the enquiry. Also include quantity, delivery country and any preferred timing so the team can discuss the full request.

Send a concise brief

Put your references and written notes into one organised enquiry. You can start from a current design such as the Wood and Brass Tone Skinner Knife or browse our Damascus collection. Submit your idea through the custom order form. Availability, materials, dimensions, accessories, price and production timing should all be confirmed in your quotation before you order.
